Whitacre Garage - Coton Road
Operated before the Davies family by Mr and Mrs Cox certainly in the 1950's
Bought by Malcolm Davies in the 1960's when it used to serve Fina petroleum, it passed into operating ownership of Eric Hewitt in the mid 70's when it became a repair workshop only. It did serve petrol again right at the end of its lifespan when it reverted back to operation under its owner Malcolm Davies. Pauline Davies(his wife) also ran the garage and the attached shop and a hairdressers was operated from a room behind the shop from the 1960's. All three premises shared the same single phone line!
Closed in 1988 and redeveloped into houses. The main garage building itself was actually quite historic. The one half with the hydraulic ramp was a later addition but the right hand bay was originally part of the village bakery and was used to house the carts and horses from a long side entrance. Even when the garage closed it still had its hayloft and attics up above the car workshop space.
