Footbridge replacement works Oct 2020 to May 2021
The early 20th century footbridge was replaced with a concrete decked unit but with patterning to remind us of the original bridge style.

Other than the compound starting to be assembled the footpath was still open but it proved to be the last time I walked across the bridge. All photos taken from the footpath.

Pictures taken from the open public footpaths show the removal of trees around the bridge giving a view not able to be seen for several decades. The compound for the work is off Station Road. We have been told that the lattice effect is to be either retained or replicated on the replacement centre section of the bridge.

New bridge - March 21st 2021
The new main over bridge section arrived on site and was craned in over the night of March 20/21st with a massive crane. The stair way sections arrived on site on the morning of 21st and were put up that afternoon. The concrete bridge has decoration on its main crossing section to replicate the original pattern of the removed steel bridge.
22nd March 2021 - new stairways fitted
Formal Opening - May 25th 2021
The bridge was formally opened by a small socially distanced ceremony on Tuesday 25th May after the constructional compound was cleared and the bridge opened to walkers a couple of weeks beforehand.
